We believe the Bible to be the inspired and only infallible written Word of God.
We believe that there is only One God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe in the Blessed Hope, which is the Rapture of the Church of God, which is in Christ, at His return.
We believe that the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious Blood of Jesus Christ.
We believe that regeneration by the Holy Ghost is absolutely essential for personal salvation.
We believe that the redemptive work of Christ on the Cross provides healing for the human body in answer to believing prayer.
We believe that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, according to Acts 2:4, is given to believers who ask for it.
We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy and separated life in the present world.
“The improvement of mankind’s relationship with God, for it is with God’s help—and His help alone—that mankind will build better homes for their children and their children’s children.”
This is our Purpose, our Mission: “To win souls for Christ, to help man learn to help himself and his fellowman, and this—with the help of Christ—we shall do.”

St. Peter Church of God in Christ was founded by the late Bishop Alfred McGowan Sr. with his wife, the late Missionary Charlester C. McGowan, and his mother, the late Evangelist Rosa Lee Tobias, October 28, 1966. The Church was originally located at 213 East 71st Street in Chicago. The mission of St. Peter--based upon St. John 21:15-16--"to win souls for Christ, and to improve man's relationship with God." From 1966 to 1975, God added souls to the ministry, and the Church experienced growth under this leadership.
During 1975, Elder Seal Livingston became the Pastor of St. Peter. The Lord blessed the ministry and the Church relocated to 1716 West 79th Street in 1978. Six years later, Pastor Livingston moved the Church to its current location, 52 West 127th Street.
St. Peter was pastored by the son of Pastor Livingston--Reverend Gregory Seal Livingston--between 1999 and 2001. During his tenure he completed upgrades to the church edifice and broadened its outreach ministry through the "Night Ministry" program which serves hot soup and other necessities to Chicago's homeless population.
During his only son's tenure Pastor Livingston enjoyed the status of Pastor Emeritus before returning to pastor in May 2001. Having served St. Peter faithfully for more than 30 years, Pastor Livingston went from labor to reward March 18, 2008--six months following the death of his beloved wife, Mother Minnie Pearl Livingston. "Well done, though good and faithful servant, well done."
The only son of St. Peter's founder--Alfred Stephen McGowan, Jr.--served faithfully for several years under the leadership of his spiritual father and godfather, Pastor Seal Livingston. Prior to Pastor Livingston's passing, he expressed his full confidence in Elder McGowan to Bishop Ocie Booker, Jurisdictional Prelate of First Illinois Jurisdiction. So, on Friday, April 4, 2008--after prayer and with the support of the membership--Bishop Booker officially appointed Elder Alfred Stephen McGowan, Jr. as Pastor of St. Peter Church of God in Christ, and officially installed him August 24, 2008. "It is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes!"
Under Pastor McGowan's leadership, with his wife Lady Ceolia McGowan by his side, the Church has undergone both interior and exterior renovations to beautify this place of worship. The Church continues to serve the community by meeting its natural and spiritual needs, and souls have been added to the ministry. During the pandemic, the outreach of St. Peter expanded beyond its borders through social media and its membership now includes members throughout the Chicagoland area as well as outside the State of Illinois. The Women of Zion Prayer Warriors (a prayer ministry started by the late Missionary Charlester McGowan) continues to join via conference call every Wednesday from 11AM to Noon--opening this corporate intercessory prayer ministry to all women and men seeking to join with one accord to intercede on behalf of the needs of the people.
The mission of St. Peter remains unchanged--"to win souls for Christ, and to improve man's relationship with God." We thank God for blessing this ministry for 58 YEARS, and we are confident that there is still a great work to be accomplished for the Kingdom of God through this ministry. We declare, "TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY," and stand on His promises in expectancy of the great things to come!
"OH LORD, WE WORSHIP YOU IN THIS PLACE"
